President After 12 highly successful years, Dr. Joe Robertson will step down in 2018 as OHSU’s President and the Board of Directors is conducting a national search for his successor. OHSU is seeking a compelling leader whose passion and vision for the educational, clinical, and research missions energizes the University community and its supporters to use OHSU’s energy, momentum and optimism to take it to the next level of excellence. OHSU’s status as Oregon’s only academic health center and its unique public corporation structure afford the president broad reach and capacity for innovative leadership within and beyond the institution. Over the last 10 years, OHSU has grown significantly and now has a $3 billion annual budget, 16,000 employees and $500 million in current construction of research and clinical facilities. The successful two-year $1.2 billion fundraising campaign for the Knight Cancer Institute, spurred by Nike cofounder Phil Knight and his wife Penny’s $500 million challenge, is providing a strong tailwind. Already ranked in the top 10 by USNWR for primary care, family medicine, and rural medicine, and ranked 30th in National Institutes of Health funding in 2017, OHSU is aggressively focused on and investing toward becoming a nationally preferred academic health center of the 21st Century. In pursuit of this, OHSU’s next leader will bring vision and an instinct for innovation and opportunity; a record of leadership through teamwork, collaboration and transparency; strong appreciation for balancing the missions of teaching, healing and research; demonstrated capacity to manage complexity; enthusiasm for the University’s public mission and role; strong advocacy and communication skills for stewarding key stakeholders and donors, and an effective commitment to inclusion and diversity.
