The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track position in “Clouds and Cloud Processes” at the assistant or associate professor level. The ideal candidate will make significant contributions to the understanding of clouds, cloud-scale processes, convection, and/or their influence on the global climate system. We seek a scholar who demonstrates a clear ability to work in and/or across the subdisciplines of atmospheric physics or chemistry, using observational, laboratory, modeling, and/or theoretical approaches.
The successful candidate could specialize in a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to: Cloud Dynamics and Physics, or Cloud Chemistry and Microphysics, or Clouds in the Earth System. Topical foci could include, but are not limited to, aerosol-cloud interaction, marine cloud brightening, boundary layer clouds, cloud-radiative feedback, mesoscale to convective-scale clouds and their processes, or cloud interactions with Earth system variability across scales.
We are particularly interested in candidates who will develop innovative models and/or use observations derived from advanced technologies to elucidate fundamental cloud processes. The successful candidate will also be able to collaborate with existing faculty to bridge the gap between cloud-scale processes and Earth system modeling and teach undergraduate and graduate classes on atmospheric science and analysis techniques.

Responsibilities:
This position has an effort split of 50% research and 50% teaching.
Research (50%) – The successful candidate will build and lead an internationally recognized research program focused on clouds and cloud processes. The candidate will be expected to maintain a well-funded research program and provide opportunities for research mentorship.
Teaching (50%) – The selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in atmospheric science, typically one 3-4 credit class per semester Possible topics include clouds and radiation, dynamics, forecasting, and other fundamental and advanced topics of atmospheric science. Additionally, the selected candidate will make valuable contributions to the department and college’s broader educational needs, such as advising and curricular review.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in atmospheric science, climate science, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will show promise of or have already developed a national and international reputation for their innovative scholarship.

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Law, the annual base salary range for this assistant professor position is $90,000 - $135,000. This pay range represents base pay (for 9 months).
