Vice President for Student Affairs

Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA). The College seeks a creative, innovative leader with a proven track record of strategic leadership and management, an entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit, and demonstrated breadth and depth of student affairs experience to join F&M’s senior leadership team. Reporting to the President, the VPSA oversees the Division of Student Affairs, and will be charged with creating and executing a vision for student affairs that enhances the student experience, provides a safe, fun, and welcoming campus environment, and fosters a sense of community across campus. This individual is a key strategic leader for the institution, which is known for its outstanding academics and has set institutional records in recent years for applications, class quality, fundraising, and national visibility.

The Vice President for Student Affairs will join Franklin & Marshall at an exciting time in its history. The evolving nature of student expectations and demographics offers a tremendous opportunity for the next VPSA to reimagine student affairs at F&M. The VPSA oversees a division that plays an integral role in the lives of students at F&M – providing services and leadership development opportunities to support and strengthen career services, the first-year experience, Greek life, international student programming, and a healthy and vibrant campus culture.

The VPSA will be well-informed about and experienced in addressing the current and future challenges of residential campuses. Ensuring students have a sense of belonging will require a leader who is innovative, forward-thinking, and deeply rooted in using data and assessment as part of the decision-making process. The VPSA will also need to understand how student needs and expectations have shifted across generations. The VPSA will be courageous, embrace bold and entrepreneurial approaches to the student experience, anticipate the needs of future students, and judiciously prioritize the allocation of available resources. The VPSA will bring a comprehensive and holistic view of the entire student experience at F&M and will play a critical, visible, campus-wide leadership role, partnering collaboratively with a wide range of academic and administrative units throughout the College. The VPSA must be approachable and accessible to all students and embrace the opportunity to engage deeply with students, parents, and the entire campus community.

Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the President’s Leadership Team, the VPSA oversees all departments within the Student Affairs division; holds budgetary responsibility for the division and leads its strategic planning; and develops relevant policies, practices, and programming that ensure student well-being and development. The VPSA oversees a budget of over $4.4 million, seven direct reports, including a dean of students, and a full team of 40 staff members.

This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Pennsylvania. The expected salary range for this position is $225,000 to $245,000, commensurate with experience.
