The University of South Carolina invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Darla Moore School of Business.
Founded in 1801, the University of South Carolina is the flagship institution of the USC System and the leading educator for the state of South Carolina. USC serves more than 54,000 students across eight institutions statewide — a system that awards approximately 40 percent of all higher education degrees in South Carolina and contributes more than $6 billion in annual economic impact.
The Columbia flagship campus is home to 16 colleges and schools, more than 2,600 faculty, and over 350-degree programs spanning the arts and sciences, business, engineering and computing, public health, nursing, law, medicine, and pharmacy — the most comprehensive array of educational offerings in the state.
Key industries for the state include tourism, aerospace (Boeing), and automotive (BMW, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, Scout, Michelin) and the strong corporate presence is reflected in the state’s population growth ranking among the highest in the nation.
The Darla Moore School of Business has been a national leader in international business education and research for over four decades. The International MBA (IMBA) program has been ranked in the top three in the nation for 37 consecutive years and the undergraduate international business program has been ranked #1 for 27 consecutive years by US News and World Report. The school has 98 partner schools in 51 countries. Over 1,000 students studied abroad this past academic year.
DMSB serves about 6,000 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students. In addition, it provides numerous executive education programs to private companies and the military. The school offers nine undergraduate majors, eight master’s programs, and seven doctoral programs.
Exceptional faculty across the seven academic departments have international reputations for their research. In addition, there are 15 academic centers supporting research and scholarship, enhancing student experience and education, and serving corporate and community stakeholders.
The successful candidate will bring a distinguished record of academic and/or professional accomplishment and leadership. Candidates with an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in a field represented in the college should have a record of scholarship, teaching, and service consistent with appointment as a tenured full professor. The committee will also consider exceptional candidates whose significant leadership accomplishments in business, government, or other relevant settings provide compelling preparation for leading a major business school. Demonstrated strategic and fiscal leadership, success building external partnerships and securing resources, and the ability to lead a complex, high-performing organization are points of emphasis.
