English as a Second Language (ESOL) Tutor (Part-Time) (Multiple Positions Available)
POSITION: Part-Time English as a Second Language (ESOL) Tutor (Special Programs Coordinator); Center for Adult Education; Lawrence Campus (45 Franklin Street); MCCC/MTA Unit Professional Position; up to 12 hours per week, 10-month academic year (8 weeks off during the summer).
SUMMARY
Northern Essex Community College (NECC) seeks a part-time English as a Second Language (ESOL) Tutor to support students enrolled in non-credit ESOL courses on the Lawrence campus. The successful candidate will provide academic tutoring and learning support to adult ESOL students to promote language development and academic success.
SCHEDULE
- Monday through Thursday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- Up to 12 hours per week
- 10-month academic year (fall and spring semesters), with a reduced schedule during winter intersession and summer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
- Provide individual and small-group instruction in:
- English grammar
- Reading
- Writing
- Listening
- Speaking
- Pronunciation
- Cultural context
- Support students in developing and achieving academic goals.
- Record and report student progress.
- Collaborate with ESOL instructors and Center for Adult Education staff to promote tutoring services.
- Maintain regular communication with the Assistant Director of Adult Education.
- Stay informed about developments within the Tutoring Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Composition, ELL, or a closely related field
- At least three years of tutoring or teaching experience in higher education
- Experience supporting students through online/virtual platforms
- Familiarity with MLA and APA writing styles
- Experience working with English language learners
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfort using technology and computer systems
- Experience using the EAB Navigate CRM platform
- Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at a community college
- Master's degree in English, Composition, ELL, or a closely related field
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Compensation
- Pay: $36.55 per hour
- Benefits: Non-benefited position
- Eligible for all-purpose paid leave hours in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement.
