The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invites applicants for a full-time mid-career/senior faculty position to serve as the Director of GI Pathology. The academic appointment may be at the Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X (senate) series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Incumbents in the HS series are expected to provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criterion for appointment in the Clinical X series. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
Applicants must have fellowship training and extensive experience in GI pathology, hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified in Anatomic Pathology, and eligible for a California medical license. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be mainly responsible for clinical services in GI/liver and pancreas pathology, including frozen section on-call duty, service on departmental and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of junior faculty, medical students, residents, and fellows.
This position will serve the laboratory needs of UCI Health, the only academic medical center in Orange County, which includes: the 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus; and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
The base salary range for this position is $341,273-$419,064. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
