Assistant/Associate Professor, Counselor Education Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Counseling and Special Education The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Education seeks applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counselor Education with a start date of August 16, 2018. The counseling program in the VCU School of Education provides graduate students with research-based professional studies and clinical experiences necessary for effective counseling, advocacy, and leadership in diverse geographic and socio-economic settings. Specifically, the faculty prepares counselors with the specialized knowledge and skills required for placement in elementary, middle, and high schools, higher education institutions, and community agencies in the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the nation. Position Description: The faculty member will be responsible for conducting research and publishing peer-reviewed articles; teaching, supervising, and advising in the counselor education program at the master’s and doctoral level; chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees; presenting at conferences; securing external funding; enhancing the program’s national and international reputation; and providing service to the program, department, school, university, and counseling profession. Qualifications: Required: An earned doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program A fundable research agenda that reflects innovation and impact Evidence of scholarly productivity with strong potential for securing external funding Experience in field-based interventions and research with underrepresented, underserved, and urban populations Supervision experience Commitment to chairing and serving on dissertation committees Clear evidence of counselor professional identity Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness among faculty, staff, and students Preferred: Track record of externally funded research experience Research, training, and/or experience with under-served youth or families in school, higher education, and/or community settings Evidence of collaboration with research centers/institutes and/or with community agencies Earned Virginia LPC or eligibility for Virginia LPC Service in professional counseling organizations About VCU: Virginia Commonwealth University is a premier urban, public research university with a diverse student body and both research-intensive and community-engaged designations from the Carnegie Foundation.
