The Department of Pediatrics Division of Infectious Disease and the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at the University of California-Irvine, School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position. The academic appointment will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, in the Line (tenure track/tenured) series.
We are seeking exceptional and creative Pediatric Infectious Disease investigators who lead innovative research programs using cutting-edge approaches in genetics, microbiology, virology, computational biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, or genomics to elucidate mechanisms and/or therapeutic strategies relevant to understanding and treating pediatric infectious disease.
The position will be within the broad area of infectious diseases. All areas of infectious diseases relevant to human disease are of interest, including molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis, host-virus/pathogen interactions, vector-pathogen interactions, microbiomes, antibiotic resistance, immune responses to infection, molecular virology, vaccinology, and the interaction of infectious agents with host microbiomes. We would especially encourage applicants with innovative new perspectives and research interests that embrace interdisciplinary approaches.
Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to have the ability to work cooperatively and effectively within a diverse academic and clinical environment. Teaching is required and may include clinical, classroom, or lab teaching.
Applicants for the position must have an MD, MD/PhD, PhD, or equivalent. For those with an MD degree who seek to continue clinical work must also be board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Clinical service would be done at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, part of Rady Children’s Health.
