The Department of Economics

The Department of Economics at Georgia State University is nationally recognized for its research,
teaching, and service in economics and policy analysis. The department offers a range of degree
programs at all levels, including the Bachelor of Science in Economics, Master of Arts in Economics,
Ph.D. in Economics, and a variety of interdisciplinary programs. The department is home to a large
group of 30 full-time faculty members who are internationally known for their research on public,
labor, health, urban and environmental, and experimental economics. Faculty regularly collaborate
with major research centers at the Andrew Young School, such as the Public Finance Research
Cluster, the Georgia Policy Labs, and the Georgia Health Policy Center as well as the Federal Reserve
Bank of Atlanta and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, positioning the department as a leader in addressing key societal issues through applied research. The department’s commitment to experiential learning ensures that students engage with real-world policy challenges through
