Harvard University is one of the world’s preeminent research universities. Founded in 1636, Harvard is the oldest university in North America. The University has grown from nine students with a single master to an enrollment of more than 6,600 undergraduate students and over 14,000 graduate students in the University’s ten graduate and professional schools. An additional 3,000 students are enrolled in one or more courses in the Harvard Extension School. Over 18,000 people work at Harvard, including approximately 2,300 faculty. An additional 10,000 people have faculty appointments in Harvard’s affiliated teaching hospitals. Harvard’s faculties oversee its twelve schools and colleges. The faculties and their respective academic divisions are: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences; Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; the Faculty of Medicine (including Harvard Medical School and the School of Dental Medicine); the Graduate School of Business Administration; the Graduate School of Design; the Divinity School; the Graduate School of Education; the Harvard Kennedy School of Government; Harvard Law School; the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health; and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. HARVARD UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT The Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) is a full-service police department comprising a Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Dignitary Protection Unit. The department is responsible for the safety and security of more than 19,000 students, 14,000 faculty and staff members, and 700 buildings in an open and accessible environment.
