The Department of Art History at the University of Minnesota consists of approximately 9 core faculty, 60 undergraduate majors, and 20 graduate students. Throughout its 90-year history, the department has maintained strong relationships with the thriving multi-disciplinary community of scholars across the College of Liberal Arts, as well as with museum professionals in the Twin Cities and surrounding region. The only PhD-granting art history program in the state, it has long been the preeminent source of expertise and the training of scholars, teachers, and curators.

Established in 1868, the College of Liberal Arts supports the University of Minnesota's land-grant mission as home to disciplines in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
