The Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego
(UCSD), founded in 1974, offers several programs for those interested in beginning
careers in education or in furthering their study in the field of education. Our
Masters Programs in Elementary and Secondary Education support the goal of equity
and educational excellence in our public schools. In our undergraduate and masters
programs, students learn research-based teaching practices and engage in extensive
reflection and writing on their classroom practice. EDS also offers one of the few Masters
programs in ASL-Bilingual Education, with an emphasis in American Sign Language - English
Bilingual Education of Deaf Children. Candidates who complete this teacher training program
also qualify for the California Education Specialist: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teaching
Credential. In our Doctoral programs (PhD in Education, Joint Doctorate in Educational
Leadership), we enable exemplary professional educators to participate in research-based
programs while working in an educational setting.
