The College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (COALS; http://aglifesciences.tamu.edu/) at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas invites applications and nominations for the position of Head of the Department of Animal Science. We seek an individual who is eligible for appointment (12 month) as a tenured Professor who will provide leadership and vision to foster an integrated culture for a large multidisciplinary department. Specific duties and responsibilities include: 1) serving as advocate and spokesperson for the Department of Animal Science; 2) serving as liaison and advocate for the Department of Animal Science to the administrative team of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, especially in support of overall programming goals and strategies; 3) providing visionary leadership; 4) working effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, and students; 5) providing leadership and guidance to departmental faculty members to aid in their professional development; 6) promoting collegiality within the Department, College, and University; 7) facilitating recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, staff, and graduate students; 8) promoting excellence in research, teaching, and extension; 9) understanding the mission of land-grant institutions, as Texas A&M University is a land grant, sea grant and space grant institution; 10) embracing and understanding the benefits of inclusiveness and multicultural competencies; 11) representing the Department to state and federal agencies, private organizations, partners and collaborators, and key industry groups; and, 12) providing leadership for continued acquisition of internal and external resources to enhance departmental programs.
