The University of Texas at Austin seeks an Associate or Assistant Vice President (AVP) and Director for its Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP).  We seek a leader with a substantial track record of increasing responsibility in sponsored-project administration at a leading higher education or research institution.  The AVP must be able to communicate well with a broad range of external and university constituencies and demonstrate vision through an ability to think in new ways about long-term strategies for a productive and effective enterprise of UT Austin’s scale.  She or he must be able to evaluate decisions in the context of responsible conduct, ethics and fairness and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
 
The OSP AVP reports to UT Austin’s Vice President for Research (VPR).  She or he is the key link on sponsored research administration to the State and national community including federal sponsoring agencies, foundations, and national organizations.  The AVP works with internal stakeholders to facilitate increased research funding across UT Austin by advising the VPR and UT administration, by connecting with Associate Deans for Research in UT Austin’s Colleges and Schools, and The OSP advisory group.  The AVP is responsible for seeing that OSP optimizes its relationship with investigators by improving the PI experience, removing barriers to the research process, and encouraging success-oriented behavior.  As the head of OSP, the AVP also builds partnerships with UT Austin offices including the Office of Technology Commercialization, the Office of Industrial Engagement, and the Central Development Office, to help UT Austin realize its strategic research goals.  Within OSP, the AVP provides leadership, strategic direction, oversight and development for a staff of 73 full-time employees, and set guidelines for effective communication and service.
