An academic unit of the College of Arts and Humanities, the Department of Women’s Studies is recognized as one of the leading programs in its field within the United States and beyond and will celebrate its fortieth-year anniversary as a department in 2017. The department includes a thriving and diverse program of LGBT studies, and so we seek a scholar who will be able to contribute significantly to curricular and programmatic development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. With eleven core faculty and more than eighty affiliate faculty, the department offers B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Women’s Studies, undergraduate certificates in LGBT Studies and Women’s Studies, a minor in LGBT Studies, a joint minor in Black Women’s Studies (with African American Studies), and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies. Feminist Studies, a flagship journal of interdisciplinary scholarship in our field, is housed on our campus. In addition to Feminist Studies, the department hosts the annual D.C. Queer Studies Symposium and the LGBT Lecture Series. The University of Maryland is situated in the greater metropolitan area connecting Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland and has access to an exceptional range of cultural, political, and social resources, including the executive offices of the National Women’s Studies Association.
