UTSA has three libraries to fit your needs. The John Peace Library (JPL) on Main Campus is our largest with three floors of resources, study spaces and academic support services. The Downtown Library is located on the second floor of the Buena Vista Building. The Applied Engineering and Technology Library—a modern, bookless satellite library—is located in the AET building on Main Campus.
The library offers a rich blend of resources to support academic work including research assistance, printed materials, electronic books and articles, and computers and other technology. Upon visiting the library, students will soon notice the Blue Crew, the friendly library staff whose motto is “ask us anything!” Blue Crew assistance is also available virtually via the library’s popular chat reference service.
Other feature of UTSA’s libraries include reservable study rooms, high speed KIC scanners, textbooks on reserve, and multimedia equipment for checkout. Through the library’s Get It For Me service, students can request books and articles to be delivered to their inboxes or to their library of choice for pick-up, free of charge. Using Library Quick Search, students have easy access to the library’s vast collections, including the latest scholarly journals and over 3,000,000 e-books.
JPL serves as a one-stop shop for academic support as the home to the Tomás Rivera Center’s supplemental instruction and tutoring services, an OIT service point, and the Writing Center. JPL is open round the clock five days a week, as well as weekend hours.
In support of UTSA’s ascent to premier research university status, the UTSA Libraries are proud to preserve the legacies of San Antonio and South Texas through our growing Special Collections featuring primary resource materials on San Antonio authors, architecture and urban development, Mexican cookery, women and women’s history, and the Texas-Mexico border region. Special Collections reading rooms are located on JPL’s 4th floor and at the Institute of Texan Cultures on the Hemisfair Campus.
