Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor – Civil Engineering – Fall 2018 Job Description: The Shippensburg University’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position effective August 2018 for a brand new engineering program. Desired backgrounds include experience in mechanical, structural, civil, or environmental engineering. We welcome applicants at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Rank is commensurate with qualifications including prior teaching experience and/or professional experience. The position requires teaching courses across the undergraduate engineering curriculum including general topics like statics, dynamics, fluids, and thermodynamics; as well as more specific topics such as foundation design, steel-frame construction, building materials, construction project management, and the senior capstone course. The position also requires engaging undergraduate students through active advising and mentoring, extra-curricular groups, industry partnerships, and directed research. Ideal candidates will have the ability to teach undergraduate students in and out of the classroom, giving them both theory and hands-on practical experience to become effective engineers. This new program will accept its first students in fall 2018, and the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to set-up lab facilities and resources and launch the program. Ideal candidates will have experience with ABET accreditation and can help lead the effort to earn accreditation for this program. In addition, faculty members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. About the Department: The Computer Science & Engineering department has eight full-time faculty (five men and three women), teaching approximately 250 students in our undergraduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering; and our graduate program in computer science. The department began offering engineering programs in 2010, and now has two EAC ABET accredited programs. Required Skills / Qualifications: Qualified candidates must have appropriate qualifications to supervise student capstone projects either through a graduate degree and professional licensure or by education (a Ph.D. in a related engineering field by the time of appointment) and design experience. As part of a successful on-campus interview process, candidates will be expected to provide a demonstration of teaching effectiveness and evidence of understanding diverse populations. Preferred Qualification: Experience teaching, working with, and supporting a diverse student population is desired. Ideal candidates will also be able to continue scholarly growth, as well as to engage in sponsored research and development with our corporate partners; and most importantly to include our undergraduate students in this process.
