The Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for Senior Instructional Professor (open rank) in the Department of Computer Science. This is a full-time, career-track position beginning as early as September 2025 or as late as September 2026, and is renewable with the opportunity for progression. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor, Associate Senior Instructional Professor, or Senior Instructional Professor, with rank determined by qualifications. Depending on the rank, the appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable with the possibility for promotion.
The selected candidate will be responsible for serving as the lead instructor for either CMSC 14100 (Introduction to Computer Science) or CMSC 25300 (Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning) as well as mentoring and managing a group of Instructional Professors within these areas. The candidate will also be expected to keep regular office hours, contribute to non-classroom instructional or service duties and ongoing professional development.
The candidate will also participate in or lead placement exam committees; train Teaching Assistants and graders; coordinate course offerings; develop collaborative-learning discussion sections and workshops in multiple courses; and develop a structured undergraduate bachelor’s research and thesis workshop sequence.
Qualifications
· PhD in Computer Science or a related field by the start of the appointment.
· Two years’ experience teaching in a college or university as an instructor of record
· Experience in management of academic programs, personnel.

The expected salary range for this position is: Assistant Senior Instructional Professor: $1120,000 - $140,000; Associate Senior Instructional Professor: $135,000 - $155,000; Senior Instructional Professor: $150,000 - $190,000. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment. Individuals may be eligible for additional summer salary.
