Position Summary: The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure track Teaching Assistant Professor of Cell Biology to start August 2025. We seek candidates whose teaching experience encompasses cell biology, broadly defined. The position requires teaching Cell Biology in spring and fall semesters. This will require developing and implementing new methods of teaching to reflect changes in the field, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, mentoring and evaluating students and graduate teaching assistants that oversee laboratory sections, creating interest and understanding among students, and a small service appointment that can include serving on various faculty- and student-oriented committees, providing service on campus an in related professional organizations, and/or participating in faculty governance in the department and on campus. For annual renewal, candidates should provide at least one year of evaluations as instructor of
record illustrating high quality teaching effectiveness. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
The Department:
The Department of Biological Sciences includes 34 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 12 non-tenure track
members conducting research and teaching in the areas of evolutionary biology, ecology, genetics, genomics, development, cell biology, and microbiology. Duties will include:
80% Teaching
10% Research
10% Service
Minimum Qualifications:
With submitted materials, the candidate must demonstrate
1. Doctoral degree in Biology (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution of higher education
conferred by the date of initial appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
2. Demonstrated competency and excellence in teaching in the classroom.
3. College-level experience teaching Cell Biology or a closely-related class.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs)
1. Current knowledge in the field of Cell Biology.
2. Current knowledge of best pedagogy practices for creating effective learning environments
3. Skilled with using Blackboard Ultra.
