Position: SENIOR CAREER NAVIGATOR – GRANT FUNDED POSITION
Job Duties:
The Director of Career Readiness & Success will maintain a portfolio of career readiness programming for all Rockland Community College students. This includes designing and delivering career development and experiential learning programming such as internships, job shadowing, career fairs, and more. Working at the nexus between employers and faculty, and staff, the Career Navigator will be a critical component to institutionalize career development across academic programs and extra-curricular activities. They will support students’ career readiness and development.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work collaboratively with the college community to assist students in finding internships and other employment opportunities
- Takes a lead role in a portfolio of ongoing programs, such as orientation or workshop programs
- May supervise and train student workers
- Plan and implement a comprehensive career readiness program, events, and workshops for students and graduates
- Conduct career coaching sessions with students, follow up on student progress, & keep detailed notes
- Liaise with internal schools and their faculty on the development, evaluation, and enhancement of experiential learning opportunities
- Serves as a liaison to student groups, clubs, and organizations
- Provide career advisement to students, including but not limited to career goals, requirements of specific occupations, and labor market trends
- Ensure accurate data entry and reporting of all activity into the career development database, including observation notes, career advancements/employments and job development activity, etc.
- Coach and advise students on career planning, job seeking skills and industry trends to effectively prepare them to gain employment
- Present in classrooms and at events about career center offerings
- Establish and maintain relationships with area employers, and workforce development boards
- Administers intake and career assessments to support students career development
- Participate in professional development activities to stay up to date on best practices within the field
- Understand and apply knowledge of local and national labor market trends to assist job seekers to identify career opportunities
- Assists in collection, tabulation and analysis of outcomes data for students and other stakeholders, as well as research on employment and market trends (lightcast)
- Perform other duties as assigned, which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of a career readiness framework at RCC
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years related experience
- Knowledge of current challenges of the target population and strategies to support their success
- Knowledge of career assessments (Focus2, Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, etc.)
- Ability to relate to a diverse student population
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to conduct business with attention to ethical considerations, College policies and procedures
- Excellent customer service skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree preferred
- Knowledge of career assessments (Focus2, Strong Interest Inventory, MBTI, etc.)
- Knowledge of the NACE career competencies
- Excellent customer service skills
- Knowledge of CRS 12twenty
Starting Salary: $65,000 - $70,000
