The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions begiing with the 2025 spring semester to teach the following courses:
Art-3D Design Ceramics
Faculty job responsibilities include the development/review of lesson plans and assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.
Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
*Master's in fine arts, art or art history; OR
Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's in humanities.
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request for Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California community college credential in appropriate subject (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 2990); AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of a broad range of disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
(*Note: "Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, metal & jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when the degree is based on specialization in a performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts)
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Teaching experience at the college level
Basic understanding of ceramic studio maintenance and operations
Basic understanding of glaze mixing and applying
Able to teach basic wheel techniques
Able to teach basic hand building techniques
Clear understanding of kiln loading and firing including reduction and oxidation firing
Clear understanding of how to fire gas and electric kilns
Able to work with students at different levels of ability and art experience
Experience teaching 3D Design foundations classes
Knowledge of materials, processes and tools
Knowledge of experiece teaching the elements and principles of design
Experience working in 3D media
Currency with contemporary art

SALARY:
Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $111.54- $134.39 (lecture), $84.54 - $101.83 (lab), per hour depending on education and experience.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part-time, temporary position for the spring semester, beginning February 15, 2025. Assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit a Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
