The mission of the Department of Art + Design, part of the College of Arts & Humanities, is to prepare talented and dedicated students for professional creative careers by emphasizing critical thinking, creative problem solving, visual literacy, and the creative process. Students acquire technical and conceptual tools, obtain a solid foundation of visual literacy and appreciation, and are encouraged to develop as socially and globally engaged artists. Our faculty members are active and professionally recognized artists, designers, and scholars, who are dedicated teachers committed to fostering an environment promoting artistic experimentation, diversity of thought, multiculturalism and global awareness. We are committed to ensuring the personal and professional success of our students.
The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate level courses in the Studio Art and Graphic & Interactive Design programs. Teaching is typically in-person, but may sometimes be online in both synchronous and asynchronous formats. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate strong attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department’s students. Their experience, substantive specialization, and pedagogical training will serve to strengthen the department's mission, vision, and program curriculum development. The candidate will demonstrate excellence and innovation as an artist-practitioner with extensive knowledge and experience of both traditional and contemporary art practices. The faculty will collaborate with other departmental and college faculty & staff to ensure student success. The typical workload involves teaching three (3) undergraduate courses per semester.
