Social Sciences Librarian (Assistant or Associate Professor)

Summary of Position
The Social Sciences Librarian is the liaison to the Social Sciences Departments in the College of Liberal Arts (COLA). This role has primary responsibility for the proactive development and delivery of responsive reference, instructional, and research support. As a position that is engaged with a variety of library services, the Social Sciences Librarian actively participates in the university’s efforts to create and nurture a dynamic learning environment in which individuals of differing perspectives, life experiences and cultural backgrounds pursue goals with mutual respect and a shared spirit of inquiry. This role has an aptitude for the teaching, use, and management of resources relevant to the social sciences. The Social Sciences librarian works with library colleagues to support scholarly communication initiatives and newly emerging modes of research and collaboration, including open science.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
· ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science or international equivalent
· Demonstrated ability to teach research skills to large and small groups, individuals, and online learners
· Experience using research resources that support the social sciences
· Demonstrated ability to create web-based instructional tools, such as tutorials, guides, and other resources; awareness of the principles of universal design and accessibility
· Ability to demonstrate cultural humility and inclusivity when working with students, and enthusiasm for working with learners of varying backgrounds
· Understanding of the opportunities and roles for the library in advancing campus initiatives related to equity, inclusion, and social justice, especially in the context of Social Sciences fields
· Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively, and manage time effectively
· Evidence of excellent interpersonal communication skills
Additional Preferred Qualifications
· A second advanced degree is preferred, and will be required for granting tenure
· A minimum of one to three years of academic library experience
· Teaching experience utilizing Social Science related resources at the college level
· Experience managing and leading projects and teams
· Additional competencies could include GIS, Data Literacy, Government Information, Systematic Reviews or Public Policy

Duty/Responsibility
The Social Sciences Librarian is subject specialist to the social sciences departments and research centers in UNH’s College of Liberal Arts (COLA), including Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Education, Anthropology, Geography, and Political Science, and to the Carsey School of Public Policy.
Primary Professional Responsibilities include:
· Support all levels of teaching, research, education, and engagement in social sciences in COLA by developing ongoing collaborative relationships and partnerships with faculty, students, and staff in all social sciences departments and related centers, programs, and institutes, including the Carsey School of Public Policy.
· Develop, enhance, and provide subject-specific information literacy instruction to the COLA social sciences community through both in-person and online formats; may participate in other relevant research support and instruction activities.
· Work individually and collaboratively with others to develop and promote awareness and knowledge of information sources and services; create online and digital content with existing and emerging tools and technologies; produce a variety of informational and instructional materials, including web-based research guides, tutorials, and modules, and other learning tools as needed, as appropriate for synchronous or asynchronous learning.
· Provide in-person and online research consultations to students, faculty, staff, other researchers, and the general public.
· Work collaboratively with teaching and research faculty, the Collection Strategy Librarian, and other library faculty, to develop and manage the library’s collections in all formats for COLA’s social sciences departments.
· Work collaboratively with Scholarly Communication Librarian to support library scholarly communication initiatives; educates, advises, and supports researchers in examining scholarly communication issues arising in their work.
· Work collaboratively with the Research Data Services Librarian and COLA social sciences researchers to support data management best practices and the development of data literacy skills.
· Demonstrate commitment to developing multicultural competence and contribute to a work environment that affirms its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
· Develop programming and outreach initiatives to advance equity and social justice goals in COLA social sciences spaces.
· Develop accessible learning materials for student and faculty use
· Conduct/produce scholarship and research and engages/disseminates via appropriate venues
· Participate actively in library, university, and professional engagement or service; participate in Library and University shared governance
· Contribute to institutional mission and strategic plan initiatives, both individually and in collaboration with others
· Represent the University and the Library externally in areas of expertise
· Continuously develop and integrate knowledge and skills into areas of expertise
· Stay current with developments in librarianship in relevant subject areas or areas of expertise
· May supervise staff or provide work direction for staff as appropriate
