Position Description
Georgia Southern University (GSU) seeks a dedicated and innovative academic leader to serve as its next Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs to advance the academic portfolio, bolster the continued development of research and scholarship across the institution, and support enrollment growth and student success.
Position
The provost is the chief academic officer of the university and must be a forward-thinking leader and visionary. The provost is responsible for the overall leadership and supervision of the faculty, academic units, and relevant student support programs of the university, including the oversight of the delivery of instruction, research, and scholarly activities. It is expected that the provost demonstrates distinguished academic leadership and excellence in teaching, research, and service to navigate challenges and leverage exciting opportunities facing GSU. The provost must demonstrate a passion for quality in education and support a vision for academic excellence and the mission of becoming the intellectual center for southern Georgia through leading innovation in business, the arts, resource development, and community growth.
The provost is responsible for the planning, development, assessment, and budget for the academic affairs enterprise, making decisions on all personnel actions, including employment, tenure, promotion, retention, and discipline of faculty and the management and employment of professional, administrative, and clerical staff within the division. The provost participates in the planning and oversight of the vision of the university, its essential values, and strategic directions, and offers informed judgment on the quality and delivery of academic programs on and off campus. This position serves as the leader of the institution in lieu of the president as a senior executive leader of the institution.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate or terminal degree in one of the fields (or closely related) offered by GSU. It is required that the provost demonstrates academic accomplishments that merit appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure at GSU.
