The CUNY Fatherhood Academy promotes responsible fatherhood and economic stability by connecting low-income fathers to educational, employment and parenting resources. We serve unemployed and underemployed fathers ages 18-28 for our High School Equivalency (HSE) program, and ages 18-30 for our College and Career Preparation program. The program provides HSE/GED classes and additional tutoring; college and career workshops; parenting, financial, and health information; family and self-sufficiency support; job readiness workshops and job development services; retention and follow-up; mentoring and assistance with applying to college and support through college degree attainment.
Reporting to the Academic Program Specialist, the Academic Advising Coordinator will provide participants with support advising services to new and continuing program participants. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Coordinator's duties will also include, but is not limited to, the following:
· Assist with the development of advising protocols regarding participant attendance and progress
· Assists in the development or Individual Development Plans for program participants which may include academic assessment, preparation for employment, parenting instruction, marriage/relationship skills development, supportive services, and follow-up.
· Facilitate workshops geared to educate, inspire and guide participants toward an awareness of their worth as young men and fathers within their families and communities while helping to address barriers to self-sufficiency and effective parenting;
· Coordinate schedules of participants and maintain concise, accurate case notes and coordinate referrals to local agencies such as the Child Support Services, HRA, Family and Civil Court, Department of Youth and Community Development, Department of Probation, Substance Abuse Treatment Programs and NYC Shelters;
· Provide data for participant activity tracking reports and monitor participant incentive programs to increase productivity and engagement in programs;
· Provides general academic and college success advice, as well as career exploration support;
· Coordinate field trips, off-site family events, job fairs and graduation ceremonies;
· Monitor student's academic participation and progress, ensure compliance with guidelines, and manage records and files;
· Advocate for students and intervene with appropriate program support services and provide referrals to faculty, campus learning resources and/or additional external support;
· Maintain program curriculum data and assist with the creation of training manuals and educational support materials;
· Participate in regular team meetings with faculty, academic and administrative staff, and actively participates in campus and University meetings and training activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required.

· Coordinates group student academic counseling and advisement workshops; schedules on-going advisement sessions
· Works with students to resolve academic issues by providing policy information and/or referrals
· Assists with training students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
· Conducts workshops for new faculty
· Updates advisement communication materials
· May conduct surveys of student services to evaluate program effectiveness; compiles data to prepare activity reports as needed
· May occasionally offer general academic advisement to students in degree and certificate programs.
· Performs related duties as assigned.
