WittKieffer is proud to partner with Binghamton University as it recruits its next Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the Binghamton University Foundation (VPA/ED). Binghamton, one of four research universities in the State University of New York System, is seeking a creative, innovative, collaborative, and experienced leader with a record of advancement accomplishment as its next VPA/ED. The selected candidate will work with a dynamic President and Provost to pursue a shared vision of becoming the premier public institution in the nation.
A vibrant, R1 public research university, which is consistently ranked among the top 40 public universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Binghamton continues to improve the quality of both undergraduate and graduate education by seeking to vigorously support the scholarly, creative, and research endeavors of its faculty. Forbes recently named Binghamton to its list of ten “New Public Ivies.”
In June 2024, Binghamton completed the largest comprehensive campaign in the university's history. The Excelerate Campaign raised more than $260 million and created extraordinary momentum for the advancement effort. The university now seeks a new VPA/ED to continue that trajectory and expand on its success. Reporting to the President, the VPA/ED works closely with the provost and other partners across campus while providing visionary leadership and effective management to lift the University's development and alumni relations team to new heights.
To achieve these goals, the VPA/ED will be expected to focus on a number of specific tasks. The next VPA/ED will conduct a post-campaign review of the Excelerate Campaign. They will then undertake the development of a plan for expanding university support going forward and broadening the university's engagement of all of its constituencies, including the implementation of ambitious new goals and metrics. One primary goal of this engagement will be to develop strategic donor stewardship plans, especially for the university's most generous contributors. The VPA/ED will also be expected to lead a talented team of approximately 40 professionals through this period of change as well as recruit additional staff to build out the overall effort.
In its next VPA/ED, Binghamton seeks an innovative and dedicated executive with a clear track record of moving an advancement division forward. The successful candidate will be a high-energy, experienced, and entrepreneurial advancement leader who will articulate a vision for Binghamton's future development and alumni initiatives. As an ambassador for Binghamton, the VPA/ED will have the personal presence and experience necessary to engage with top individual and institutional donors and prospects, and to strengthen partnerships and relationships with alumni, businesses, industry, and other educational institutions and organizations. The selected candidate will also have the experience to lead a team to higher performance and to effectively manage the work of a public university foundation across all of its functions.
