University of California, Davis Executive Director, Research and Teaching Animal Care Program search University of California, Davis (UC Davis) invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director, Research and Teaching Animal Care Program. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research and with indirect reporting line to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Resource Management, the Executive Director serves as the Attending Veterinarian and is responsible for long-range planning, leadership and oversight of animal care and use at UC Davis. The Executive Director manages and strategically harmonizes the distributed operations of over 1 million square feet of animal holding space in over 200 buildings overseen by individual vivarium managers. The Executive Director leads a team of stakeholders responsible for identifying solutions that balance multiple, often competing, resource priorities. Supporting the academic mission of the university by assuring compliance with all applicable regulations governing the use of animals in research and teaching, the Executive Director serves in a public information, training, consultative, and facilitative role on behalf of the University’s programs of animal care and use. The preferred candidate will have an earned Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from a recognized and accredited school, licensed DVM with an ability to attain a CA license within one year, broad experience with laboratory animal research, as evidenced by DACLAM status, and administrative leadership experience in a relevant research environment. In addition, the candidate should have demonstrated success as an administrator and fiscal manager, a record of success in presenting complex and technical information to various audiences, and experience in animal research policy formation, compliance, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with various internal and external constituencies, promote interdisciplinary research and work with a diverse population.
