This is a .75 FTE position in the Counseling department of University Health & Counseling Services. The person holding this position will hold a terminal degree in social work or counseling. This position is responsible for providing a full range of psychological, educational, training and consultation services. The staff counselor must work collaboratively with UHCS staff and the broader campus community. UHCS is an affirmative action organization. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities: Duties: Provide coverage and/or back-up for walk in appointments for five shifts per week. Be available for on-call consultation/intervention for university personnel regarding students in acute emotional distress. Consultation with providers, faculty, staff and UW-Whitewater students and their families regarding student mental health needs and current mental health issues. Provide short-term group counseling/therapy/risk management for a small caseload of ongoing clients Coordinate referral process for students beyond scope of service including assisting other clinicians who are seeking to hospitalize their clients. Build relationships with referral sources and provide coordination to UHCS staff regarding referral resources. Provide supervision for counseling interns as appropriate. Participation in building and university wide committees as appropriate. Coordinate UHCS participation in the Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation (CARE) team. CARE is the Behavioral Intervention Team for UW-Whitewater. Participate in a minimum of one UHCS outreach initiative each academic semester. Ethical practice is to be guided by the code of ethics of the clinician’s respective professional organization. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by Executive Director of UHCS. Supervision received: Administrative supervision is received from the Executive Director of UHCS Clinical supervision/consultation is collegial and shared. Supervision exercised: Clinical supervision exercised with masters level interns, doctoral level psychology interns, or social work field placement students. Participates with other clinical staff in peer review and peer consultation.
