Ball State University is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Vice President for Governmental Relations. This individual will advocate for Ball State University and serve as the liaison to members of the state legislature and other state and federal governmental agencies and representatives. In addition, they will plan, direct, and coordinate the preparation and presentation of requests and other materials related to the university’s needs for operating and capital funds and for other university initiatives. The Vice President will not only identify, and coordinate advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues, but meet with university officers to coordinate the development and implementation of strategy for securing approval of university initiatives, policy proposals, budget requests and other state and federal programs. Ten or more years of relevant experience with increasing levels of responsibility, through which an extensive working knowledge of the state and federal legislative processes and understanding and comprehension of the overall political processes were demonstrated; experience in a position requiring the use of analytical skills, including the ability to organize and integrate data. Experience in a position requiring the use of effective communication and interpersonal skills; experience in a position demonstrating the ability and willingness to operate with appropriate independence and autonomy. Strong collaboration skills with a track record of building strong relationships with the ability to influence stakeholders.
