The Financial Aid department operates with a collaborative framework, which encourages the Senior Director to participate fully in student recruitment, enrollment and retention strategy planning, execution and assessment. Additionally, this position serves on the financial aid optimization team and serves as a leader in strategic discussions in financial aid topics such as institutional student loan strategies, student debt outcomes, long-term financial planning and more. Summary & Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Senior Director of Financial Aid oversees 5 direct reports and 27 indirect reports, along with robust annual operating & personnel budgets, as well as annual financial aid programs. The Senior Director provides leadership and oversight for all functions of Student Financial Services, including financial aid strategy, financial aid awarding and disbursement, federal and state compliance, loan approvals (federal and private), and student employment. This department serves all student populations including undergraduate, graduate, law and seminary. The Senior Director directs and manages the organizational, budgetary, policy, technology & systems, and personnel requirements and activities of the unit. He/she implements the strategy to optimize use of institutional funds to enroll the desired number and profile of students and to retain current students. The Director is an active and highly visible leader and collaborates with Admissions leaders and the Associate Vice Provost of Academic Enrollment Management to achieve common goals and ensure positive outcomes on all student financial services and enrollment matters. The Director oversees the administration of government funds in accordance with federal and state regulations. He/she advises University leadership on the impact of proposed state and federal legislation and recommends institutional response. The Director works with budget and research staff to provide insight and support on revenue models and reporting. This position requires strong leadership and management skills. The Director will be responsible for shaping the culture of the team and setting the standard for quality service. He/She develops, coaches and mentors staff to encourage professional development, and implements positive changes to elevate Student Financial Aid to the next level. The Director develops exceptional relationships with key leaders throughout the institution to gain buy-in and credibility and to understand the impact of all Student Financial Aid activities on other departments throughout the University. Working with the Student Financial Aid leadership team, the Director designs, executes and assesses an industry leading array of financial aid programs that support institutional recruitment and retention goals. The Director maintains a national presence in financial aid and business office associations to enhance Baylor University’s reputation. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the University, and serving as a senior member of the Enrollment Management division, the Director works to advance institutional goals. Requirements Qualifications: Eight to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in administration of financial aid programs and/or student financial services and strong management experience. A Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s, MBA or JD preferred. Proven track record of successful strategic planning, excellent operational and systems management, effective leadership and innovative approaches to optimizing resources to meet institutional goals and a standard of excellence of service delivery. Extensive knowledge of federal regulations and requirements for compliance, experience with complex, institutional awarding strategies and expertise with state/federal funding processes. An understanding of econometric modeling and other relevant statistical tools. A proven understanding of the dynamics of a complex and culturally diverse university community.
